Hearing (/hɪərɪŋ(g)/), or auditory perception, is the physical sense of the to perceive sounds by detecting vibrations through one’s ears.[1] The academic field concerned with hearing is auditory science.

Hearing is necessary for the skill of listening, however it is not sufficient.

A hearing impairment can result in less ability to listen. Both teachers and students can be negatively affected by this. Teaching hearing impaired students is a specialism.

As a teacher it is important to try to look after your hearing. A hearing aid may be used to ameliorate hearing impairments.
