Future perfect
From Teflpedia
Future perfect is a pedagogic grammar term for the English structure:
- [Subject] will have [done something]
especially with regard to future time.
Meaning[edit | edit source]
Form[edit | edit source]
This is a form of the modal present perfect
Pronunciation[edit | edit source]
Pedagogy[edit | edit source]
This is often taught as part of the “future tense” in English. However, this is a lie as English has no future tense. Indeed, this structure can be used to reference past time, as in the following example:
- “When I travel to teacher conferences, my son Thomas looks after my cat Henry. I left home last night, so I’m sure he will have been round this morning to feed him.”
