From Teflpedia

A flipchart is a display board that consists of a pad of large paper sheets.[1] It is typically fixed to the upper edge of a whiteboard, or supported on a tripod or four-legged easel. Such charts are commonly used for presentations and boardwork.

The advantage of flipcharts is that you can flip over the paper if you need to write more but then can unflip the paper to return back to an earlier display. The disadvantage is that being paper, once the ink is on the paper it’s permanent, so it’s difficult to edit what you’ve written.
