Final consonant cluster

From Teflpedia

A final consonant cluster is a consonant cluster in a syllabic coda.

These frequently occur in English, although English phonotactics limits the consonant clusters that can be used. Up to four consonant sounds can be used together in a cluster (e.g. /ksθs/ in sixths). There are approximately 63 possible different final consonant clusters permissible in English phonotactics.

Final consonant clusters may be subject to consonant cluster reduction.

In our analysis, the phoneme /r/ and phoneme /l/ when they follow a vowel sound, are part of that vowel sound, and thus not part of any consonant cluster that follows.

See category:Final consonant clusters for a listing.
