English for academic purposes

From Teflpedia

English for academic purposes (EAP) is a form of English for specific purposes (ESP) used for academia. This is one of the more common forms of ESP. It's also a specific form of Language for academic purposes (LAP).

This is usually in preparation for university studies in an English speaking country.[1] Consequently a more formal approach is generally taken in teaching EAP, which focuses on reading, writing and presentations.

Otherwise sometimes known as the following:

  • English language for academic purposes (ELAP)
  • English as a second language for academic purposes (ESLAP)
  • English as a foreign language for academic purposes (EFLAP)
