ESL in popular culture
English as a second language occasionally appears in popular culture. Note that an Internet search for "ESL in popular culture" will generate many results aimed at teachers about using popular culture to teach English, but little about ESL itself in popular culture.
ESL as it appears in English language popular culture is different from how it appears in non-English cultures. Indeed, in an English speaking context, English is a second language to non-native English speakers, whereas in a non-English speaking context, English is a foreign language. Hence the title of this article is ESL not EFL.
