Defectivity
From Teflpedia
Defectivity (/dəfektɪvɪti/) is a linguistic property of words which cannot be fully inflected into all the normal forms typical of the word class to which they belong:
- defective adjectives, i.e. absolute adjectives, which lack comparative and superlative forms
- defective nouns, mass nouns that lack plurals, or plural-only nouns that lack singulars.
- defective verbs, in English, mostly modals
