Comma-separated list

From Teflpedia

A comma-separated list is a list that’s separated by commas.

Comma-separated lists are easy to read and write, making them accessible for both humans and machines. This format allows for the efficient representation of multiple items in a single line, saving space compared to other list formats.

However, if items within the list themselves contain commas, it can lead to confusion unless additional formatting (like quotation marks) is used. Comma-separated lists do not inherently support hierarchical or nested data structures, which can limit their usability in complex datasets.

A comma-separated list may include the Oxford comma, also known as the serial comma. This is the final comma before the conjunction (usually and or or) in a list of three or more items.
