Cast /ˈkæst/ is an English word that can act as a verb, noun or adjective.

As a verb, cast is an irregular lexical verb; it has the third person form "casts", the -ing form "casting", but an invariant preterite and past participle "cast". The last may be overregularised to *"casted". In this regard it is similar to cost.

Cast forms the root of some compound verbs, particularly "broadcast".

This may be subjected to the bath-trap split and pronounced /ˈkɑ:st/ despite there being no R in it.
