Break is an English verb.

Break is an irregular verb - it has the third person form "breaks", the -ing form "breaking" but the irregular preterite "broke" and the irregular past participle "broken". The latter two may be over-regularised to *"braked". Note that "broke" can be used as a past participial adjective to mean "without money".

Brake is an ergative verb; if something breaks, the subject falls apart, whereas if someone breaks something it is the object that falls apart.

The verb brake is a homophone, though that is regular - it is etymologically related.

There are various phrasal verbs, including "break in", "break into", "break out", "break up".
