From Teflpedia

Activism /ˈæk.tə.vɪzm/ consists of efforts to promote, impede, direct, or intervene in social, political, economic, or environmental reform with the desire to make changes in society toward a perceived greater good.[1]

English is often the language of activism; protest placards are often written in English even in non-English speaking countries to better communicate the activists' goals to international media.

Teachers may also engage in activism, for example by requesting better pay and conditions.
