Albert Sydney Hornby (1898–1978) was a leading proponent of situational language teaching, as well as the founder and first editor of English Language Teaching (now known as ELT Journal)[1] and editor of the A Learner’s Dictionary of Current English, published by Oxford University Press in 1948 and retitled in 1952 as The Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English.[2]
