⟨c⟩

From Teflpedia

⟨c⟩ is an English consonant monograph consisting of a single letter C.

This very reliably sounds either S phoneme /s/ as Soft C or K phoneme /k/ as hard C. The latter is taught as default, but learners have to learn that ⟨ce⟩ and ⟨ci⟩ are soft but ⟨ca⟩, ⟨co⟩, ⟨cu⟩ are hard.

It is usually doubled to ⟨ck⟩ rather than ⟨cc⟩. It mutates to ⟨ck⟩ before -er, -ed and -ing. For example:

magic → magicked
mimic → mimicking, mimicked, mimicker
panic → panicked, panicking
picnic → picnickers, picnicked, picnicking.
