Wiki copyright[edit]

Bob, How exciting to discover another TEFL wiki using MediaWiki! I have one at Wikigogy.org. I chose to put Wikigogy's content under the Creative Commons By-Attribution Share-Alike license so that its content could be re-mixed and re-shared legally under that same license anywhere by anyone, forever. I'd love to explain why I feel that is an important practical feature of the wiki's mission, if you are interested... Meanwhile, if you wish to put TEFLpedia.com under that same license (I recommend this -- and it would mean we could share content between our two wiki's), you can do it by adding this to your LocalSettings.php file:

## For attaching licensing metadata to pages, and displaying an
## appropriate copyright notice / icon. GNU Free Documentation
## License and Creative Commons licenses are supported so far.
$wgEnableCreativeCommonsRdf = true;
$wgRightsPage = ""; # Set to the title of a wiki page that describes your license/copyright
$wgRightsUrl = "http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/";
$wgRightsText = "Creative Commons Attribution-Share-Alike 3.0";
#$wgRightsIcon = "http://creativecommons.org/images/public/somerights20.png";
$wgRightsIcon = "http://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-sa/3.0/88x31.png";
# $wgRightsCode = "by-sa"; # Not yet used

Best to declare a wiki friendly TEFLpedia copyright policy -- one that allows re-mixing and re-sharing -- soon. Currently all TEFLpedia contributions fall under full all rights reserved copyright, the default under the Berne Convention. That messes with TEFLpedia's mission because TEFLpedia pages cannot even be legally edited here online under that full all rights reserved copyright -- each page edit by a new user is a copyright infringement of the page's previous contributors because permission to edit and re-publish has not been explicitly given. I'd go with Creative Commons By-Attribution Share-Alike license, myself, to fix that up. Hope this helps. Cheers! :-) Roger 04:22, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Roger. At the moment our copyright policy is on the mainpage, and it states: "By hitting "Save Changes" you put your changes into the public domain." In other words this is a public domian wiki - and not "all rights reserved". However I would have no problem to changing it to Creative Commons - thanks for the PHP data. I've been to your wiki before and note that our objectives are somewhat different so I think we could indeed collaborate. :-)
I am also aware of other TFL wikis which you have probably noticed under the Category:ELT wikis. For some reason none of us has really caught fire. Perhaps everybody is too busy preparing classes.  :-) --Bob M 14:12, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Glad to see TEFLPedia is now licensed CC-BY-SA (icon at lower left of page). We are now license compatible with Wikipedia, Wikitravel and my own humble Wikigogy. Bravo! --Roger 19:11, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
