Help:Indents

An indent is the space left by indenting text. To make things easier to read when several users are contributing their views, it's customary to indent to the right from the previous comment when replying to a comment on a talk (discussion) page.

This is not an automatic function. So users have to do it manually by inserting colons before their comments. The first user replying inserts one colon (:), the second user two colons (::), and so on.

The wiki text looks like this:

User A comments here
:User B replies here
::User C comments regarding this here
:::User D adds something on this here

Which gives us this:

User A comments here

User B replies here
User C comments regarding this here
User D adds something on this here

Note. There might, however, come a time when a particular thread gets excessively indented and someone will outdent:

User A comments here

User B replies here
User C comments regarding this here
User A adds something on this here
User D replies here
User B replies here
User E comments regarding this here
User B adds something on this here

(outdent) User C says more on this here

User B replies on it here
