The use of graded materials, especially that of reading materials, is very extensive, with many schools including "easy readers" as obligatory reading for students.
The concept of graded materials can also include subtitled films.
May give a sense of achievement to students who like to "measure" their progress and/or who might otherwise be put off by trying to read non-graded material.
Some teachers think that "dumbing down" and using language which is possibly unnatural and which students won't come across out in "the real world" gives them false expectations as to their ability to cope outside the classroom.
